Membership
in the Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio (YPCO) is by
audition only. The following information will acquaint you with
audition requirements:
- Students entering grades 8-12 in the 2008-2009 school year
are eligible to audition for membership in the orchestra.
- Applicants will
perform an approved solo appearing on the OMEA high school
list. If your solo is not on the list, it must be submitted
for approval.
- Violinists wishing
to be considered for the 1st violin section must perform a
solo from the OMEA Class A list (or approved equivalent).
- Applicants will
perform 2 or 3 octave scales, up to 4 sharps and 4 flats.
- Applicants will
be given a sight reading exercise to perform.
- Percussionists will
demonstrate the ability to perform on snare, timpani, and
mallet; and knowledge of all rudiments.
- Auditions will be
heard for the following instruments: violin, viola, cello,
bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn,
trombone, tuba, and percussion.
